Shikimic acid

Shikimic acid is a key precursor in the synthesis of many alkaloids, aromatic amino acids, indole derivatives, and chiral drugs. More recently, shikimic acid has been used as A starting material for oseltamivir (the active ingredient of Tamiflu), a neuraminidase inhibitor that can be used to treat and prevent influenza A and influenza B (see related literature).
