Alveromycin is an analogue of the antitumor quinone antibiotic Geldamycin. Alveromycin combines with HSP90, which is a chaperone protein that helps to assemble, mature and fold proteins. Subsequently, the function of Hsp90 was inhibited, resulting in the degradation and depletion of its customer proteins such as kinases and transcription factors involved in cell cycle regulation and signal transduction.
